Hurricane Plan For Your Mind

In terms of mindset, I had the following thoughts this week. I needed to evacuate Sarasota as Hurricane Ian bore down on us. I thought about the Hurricane readiness plan my family had in place. It consisted of the following:
Shop for food that we did not have to refrigerate.
Get lots of water.
Have an evacuation route.
Pack essentials.
Fill gas in the car, fill five-gallon portable gas tank.
Wait for clarity about hurricane landing path.
Evacuate to a place where the hurricane would not hit.
Clean up the outside of our home and take inside all furniture and items that could potentially fly through the air and harm others or our house.
Make decisions based on logic not emotions.
The last one was key for us as tensions and fear were real. But every time we had to make a decision, we were clear on what was most important – the safety of our family.
As we evacuated, the need for comfort was secondary to what was needed in the situation.
Did we want to get to the hotel or was it better to fill the car’s gas tank?
Did we want to rest or was it better to restock provisions?
Did we want to check emails and texts or was it more important to focus on the road as the rains beat down?
The answers were easy as our priorities, values and mission were super clear. Get to safety. Prepare for discomfort and no modern conveniences Take care of our family. Sometimes stripping away our ego and the need for comfort makes decisions super easy.
So the question regarding mindset becomes do you have a hurricane plan for your mind.
When the storm of doubt, frustration, and anger or fear happen what is your plan? What do you stock the shelves with? What do you decide to focus on for your own mission? If you have a plan in place, the decisions become clearer and quicker and more efficient.
We are all safe here and we are glad we had a plan in place.
Take care and keep on keeping on.
